Springbank

Springbank Distillery is exceptional in many ways. It is the oldest independent family owned whisky distillery in Scotland. The Campbeltown distillery is now owned by the founder Archibald Mitchell‘s great great grandson Hedley G. Wright. „The original Springbank whisky has been distilled legally on the site of the present distillery since 1828, and probably illicitly since well before then!“ (Springbank‘s website)

Springbank is the only Scottish distillery producing 100% real handmade whisky by its own traditional floor maltings for its production. Even the peat is cut by themselves.

„It is the only distillery in Scotland to have never chill-filtered, nor do we add any artificial colourings to any of our single malts.“ All their whiskies are bottled on site in their own bottling hall.

The Campbeltown distillery produces three different Single Malts: Springbank (lightly peated, 2,5 distilled), Longrow (heavily peated, 2,5 distilled) and Hazelburn (non-peated, triple distilled).

In 2013 about 100,000 litres of pure alcohol were produced, 10,000 each were of the Longrow and Hazelburn character.

There is a visitor centre offering different tours. The Springbank Whisky School runs one week courses to give a full insight into the production of whisky. For information please see: whiskyschool@springbankwhisky.com or telephone 01586 555492 or 01586 552009.

The sister company and independent bottler William Cadenhead Ltd. is also based at Campbeltown.
