Midleton micro Ditsillery
Midleton micro Ditsillery
A new micro-distillery was opened on the site of the Old Midleton Distillery in Co Cork. The small facility was launched by the Irish Distillers Group - owned by Pernod-Ricard plc - in mid-September 2015.
This rather unique distillery will distil whiskey spirits that are based on recipes which were discovered in an early nineteenth century notebook of John Jameson II (son of John Jameson who owned the distillery in Bow Street, Dublin).
“Our archivist (Carol Quinn) recently uncovered a notebook personally used by John Jameson II in 1826 which he used to take note of special recipes and ingredient mixes used by the original Jameson distillers,” said Ceo Anna Malmhake.
The personal notebook from 1826s „...details a lot of the recipes they were trying at the time, and the different ratios of the grains, what grains they used, a lot of different parameters that they would have adjusted, trying to find a new blend, so we will be trying some of those recipes to see what we will come out with, or if we can replicate something that they would have made back in the day,“
said Head Distiller Karen Cotter.
The new micro distillery will produce about 400 casks annually.
