Glasgow Distillery Company

„The Glasgow Distillery Company takes its name from Glasgow’s original distillery. Founded at Dundashill in 1770, the distillery was known, for a time, as The Glasgow Distillery Company and remained active until the beginning of the 20th Century.“

In September 2014 the Glasgow Distillery Company started distilling gin and malt whisky on the banks of the Clyde River in Glasgow for the first time in hundered years.

The initiative came from Liam Hughes who has been active in the beer trade and was the Scottish sales director of the Irish cider Bulmers until 2002. He was also responsible for the consulting business Grow Sales  (http://growsales.publishpath.com/). His business partner is Ian McDougall of the accountancy practice McDougall Johnstone. Finacial support „...came from not named Far Eastern backers.“

They will also launch a juniper-led MAKAR Glasgow Gin by October 2014. Makar is the Scottish word for bard or poet. The gin will be emphasis Scottish-grown botanicals in its distilling recipe.

The distillery is situated at the Hillington Business Park at 234 West George Street, Glasgow.

David Roberston, who has worked as a former Master Distiller of The Macallan  and a rare mlts director at White & Mackay will be a consultant master distiller. The production stillman is Jack Mayo who graduated from Heriot-Watt University.

The gin is distilled in a 450 liter pot with a column which was manufactured by the German CARL GmbH, Eislingen.

Whisky distillation has not started yet. It is planned to start with a new set of mash tun, washbacks and pot stills (manufacturer is not named yet) by October 2014.
