Loch Lomond

The Loch Lomond Distillery is unique and very impressive because it is the only Scottish distillery producing grain and malt whiskies at one place. The Loch Lomond Single Blend is the only blend which is made of grains and malts from one distillery place.

Loch Lomond Distillery was built in the mid-sixties at the border of the Lowlands and the Highlands a few miles south of Loch Lomond in Alexandria. The production volume is about 10.000.000 litres of grain and 4.000.000 litres of malt.

There is also a Lomond spirit still which was invented by Alistair Cunningham and Arthur Warren in 1955. Although it is no longer in its original design as there are new Glockenboeden - bubble-cap internals or trays - implemented today, the distillery produces quite a variety of single malts at fair prices.

Besides Loch Lomond there are other names like Craiglodge, Croftenga (heavily peated 40 ppm), Glen Douglas, Inchfad, Inchmoan, Inchmurrin or Old Rhosdhu. The cut points of the heart of the run is sometimes below 60% A.B.V. which make the Loch Lomond Malts very special with their aromas and tastes.

In the bonded warehouses lie also casks filled with malts from the Campbeltown distillery Glen Scotia and the dismantled Lowland distillery Littlemill (1994-1996). In 1997 many casks were destroyed by fire.

Loch Lomond Distillery was owned by Glen Catrine Bonded Warehouse Ltd. in Mauchline (also owner of the Glen Scotia distillery in Campbeltown) until March 2014. The group was owned by the Bulloch Family and chaired by Sandy Bulloch.

In March 2014 the distillery was sold to a private equity group Exponent. Sandy Bulloch and his family sold Glen Katrine Bonded Warehouse Ltd. - one of the largest independent bottling plants in Scotland - the distilleries Glen Scotia and Loch Lomond are reckoned to be worth between £75 million and £350m.
