Benrinnes
Benrinnes
Located at the steps of Speyside‘s highest mountain - hence its name - Ben Rinnes (840 metres) the distillery was unique for its 2 1/2 distillation process - partial triple distillation - until 2004.
The Saladin box maltings were closed in 1984 after 20 years in practice. Today the malt comes from Glen Ord, Roseisle and Burghead Maltings. 2.5 million litres of alcohol were produced until 2011. Rectancular iron worm tubs are in use for condensation. The new make spirit „...is green, grassy, spicy and slightly salty.“
The annual production will reach 3,5 Million litres in 2012 as they changed from a five day week to a seven day week.
Benrinnes is bottled in the Flora and Fauna Series and by various independent bottlers. It is a very clean, delicious and delicate whisky.
