Convalmore
Convalmore
Founded in 1893 it is one of the seven distilleries of Dufftown. Production started in 1894 near the River Fiddich. It was named after the Great Conval (hill), where the water comes from, the distillery had a Coffey still in 1909 which produced 2.273 litres of alcohol per hour. It was designed by the Dufftown architect Donald Mackay and was the fourth distillery to be built in Dufftown. His distillery was next to good railway links and the whisky was liked by Glasgow merchants, among them James Buchanan, who took over in 1906. However, fire broke out in the tunroom on 29 October 1909. Rebuilt in 1910. In 1985 it was mothballed. The warehouses are used by Balvenie and Glenfiddich. Some bottlings are available at Gordon & MacPhail‘s in Elgin. It is getting very, very rare. Diageo released a 36 year old bottlingn in October 2013.
Today Convalmore warehouses are used by Balvenie, Kininvie and Glenfiddich (2011)
